“It takes undeniable strength to begin and to attend therapy. Skydiving and deep-sea diving have nothing on the courage it takes to face ourselves and our struggles head on. I have the utmost respect for my clients; right from that first request to book a session. That vulnerability is courage. I love witnessing this strength on a regular basis. I want this type of strength recognized in our society.” - Jennifer Fisher |
At Inner Roots Psychotherapy, we want to improve access to mental health services in the Grey/Bruce area, reduce negative stigma related to seeking and attending mental health services, as well as collaborate with other local therapists and organizations to promote client-focused care, and client advocacy.
It is our goal for clients to end therapy with a sense of recovery and empowerment. We have a goal of normalizing mental health services and for mental health treatment to be valued as one of the many important branches of overall health care. |
My experience includes working with men and women presenting with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, anger management, acquired brain injury, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trichotillomania, gender identity issues, and relationship issues (including separation and divorce). Experience also includes providing clients with assertiveness training, boundary setting, and self-esteem building. I have provided gender-identity related support and assessments for adults seeking OHIP-funded gender affirming surgery. I have extensive experience working with WSIB, auto-insurance companies and rehabilitation treatment teams. I focus on providing clients at Inner Roots Psychotherapy with a multi-modal counselling approach tailored to each individual client with evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT); Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT); systematic desensitization (including return to work plans and implementation); emotion-focused therapy (EFT); interpersonal psychotherapy (ITP); psycho-education, and relaxation techniques (such as mindfulness meditation).
