ABOUT

HELLO

Picture
My name is Jenn, and I am a registered psychotherapist practising in Owen Sound, Ontario. People tell me I am calm, caring, and that I “dig deep”. This is how past clients inspired the name Inner Roots. My personal experience of therapy is that of a place free of criticism; to reflect, receive insight and support, to heal and grow. It is also a place to set goals, and to be held accountable. I have been in private practice for 9 years, working with and learning from a beautifully diverse range of clients.  I pull from this experience in providing a multi-modal therapeutic approach, leading to personalized care for you.  On a personal note, I am on the quiet-side, love reading (mostly about psychology, mind, and emotions!), hiking all year round in beautiful Grey-Bruce, and being around people who make me laugh. I tend to be in-tuned to the emotional environment around me and can’t help but see the best in others, which have been great strengths in this profession. My spare time is family focused, with my husband and two young children, who share my love for outdoor activities year round.

I look forward to getting to know you.

OUR VISION

I imagine a protective glass placed over a sprout, giving it a chance to nourish its roots and grow strong enough to survive the elements on its own. I imagine that sprout discovering it has been a strong tree all along. Sometimes, we need a space that provides a break from the storm so that we can feel strengthened, and not withered, by life’s elements once again. An emotional greenhouse of sorts.
In this profession, as in many, it is essential to be genuinely passionate about your work; to enjoy deep conversations and to have an open mind. This includes being able to hold space for the most intense, and darkest of emotions and thoughts. It is my vision for Inner Roots Psychotherapy to be that space for you.

OUR MISSION

To provide deeply thoughtful treatment fostering meaningful change.
In practise this looks like having a confidential space for all your emotions and thoughts to be experienced and worked through. For you to be met with dedication, support, and guidance from your therapist to address your unique goals, and to work at your own pace. This also looks like treatment plans that are thoughtfully put into place, adjusted as need be, and communicated compassionately.

OUR GOALS

“It takes undeniable strength to begin and to attend therapy. Skydiving and deep-sea diving have nothing on the courage it takes to face ourselves and our struggles head on. I have the utmost respect for my clients; right from that first request to book a session. That vulnerability is courage. I love witnessing this strength on a regular basis. I want this type of strength recognized in our society.”

- Jennifer Fisher
At Inner Roots Psychotherapy, we want to improve access to mental health services in the Grey/Bruce area, reduce negative stigma related to seeking and attending mental health services, as well as collaborate with other local therapists and organizations to promote client-focused care, and client advocacy.

It is our goal f
or clients to end therapy with a sense of recovery and empowerment. We have a goal of normalizing mental health services and for mental health treatment to be valued as one of the many important branches of overall health care.

training & experience

I am a registered psychotherapist providing counselling & psychotherapy to adults in Owen Sound. I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology from Laurentian University in 2009, and master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2012. I held positions at Rehabilitation Management Inc., developing and coordinating goal-directed rehabilitation plans for individuals who experience cognitive, physical, behavioural, and/or psychological changes due to brain injury, complex orthopaedic injuries, spinal cord injuries, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. I completed a student practicum, and upon graduating was hired in a clinical position where I gained valuable experience at Deck Psychological Services, a private practice in Northern Ontario. I gained further instrumental experience at Brookside Psychologists, a private practice based in Southern Ontario, working amongst a team of psychologists and psychotherapists. My training and clinical experience has grown within the specific setting of private practice, allowing me to have developed diverse clinical skills. I am passionate about advocating for and supporting my clients.
